This was found by Butterfly Conservation members to be THE best nicotiana flower to attract spectacular Hawkmoths. It is night-scented and grows taller than many modern hybrids, with wonderful large, creamy-white flowers that seem luminous in the dark. The flowers will also attract other moths that in turn provide food for bats.
Often sold as half-hardy annual seed, this plant is actually a perennial in its native land and is now being reported to come through our recent milder winters in the UK in some areas. It may be worth lifting the root, potting up and bringing it into a greenhouse for the winter if you want to keep a mature plant going in colder districts.
