Golden Hop
Humulus lupulus 'Aureus' - this is a lovely golden leaved plant for a wildlife hedge or over an arbour or trellis in the garden. It is just as useable by the rare Argent and Sable moth as a larval food plant as the wild hop is, but this one really does brighten up a dull green hedge as it twines through with its beautiful large leaves and flowers dangling like yellow-green bunches of grapes.
The bees love it for nectar and you can just cut it back when you cut the hedge. It dies back in winter and you can harvest the hops to put into a sleep-inducing pillow with lavender or another scented herb. (Or you could even make beer with it)
Very easy to grow in full sun in a moist but well-drained soil of any type.
