Salsify


SalsifyTragopogon porrifolius, is also known as 'the poor man's oyster' because of the delicious taste of its root. It is a member of the dandelion family and looks like skinny parsnips, but is much easier to grow than parsnip.

Light, sandy soil best but will grow in most locations.

Sun preferred.

Feeding

Not usually required.

Chives.

Spacing

Single Plants: 15cm (5") each way (minimum)
Rows: 10cm (3") with 30cm (11") row gap (minimum)

Sow and Plant

Sow direct into soil from early spring.

Water well in dry periods.

Harvesting

Roots can be lifted throughout winter.
