Scurvy Grass

Cochlearia  officinalis This is the famous plant that ancient Sailors discovered growing around the sea cliffs that cured their horrible disease called Scurvy. (Unbeknown to them, Scurvy was simply due to a lack of vitamin C on long sea voyages, and any fruit or vegetables in their diet would have prevented it.)
But this plant is not a grass, it is a native wildflower you can sometimes still sea growing beside the sea. It is interesting to be able to show it to kids, tell them the story and let them taste it -there are recipes for using it in salads and even sushi on the internet!
It is very easy to grow from seed and does not take up much room. Small amount of seed available
