wild rose
Its delicate pink, scented flowers are produced in profusion in mid summer and then bright red seedpods or 'hips' in the autumn. these hips are eaten by wildlife, but if you get to them first they are very rich in vitamin C, as used in 'Rose-hip syrup' for babies in Wartime and since. (You can't eat the hips raw; they have to be cooked to make jam or drinks and strain away the hairy pulp)
